Become a Driving Instructor - Driving Instructor Courses

Training to become a Driving Instructor is not as difficult as some might say. The problem comes when choosing your driving instructor training. You need the highest quality training possible, "without spending a fortune" to qualify. So, choose your Driving Instructor Course provider carefully. Place the initial emphasis on the quality and cost of the training and not on the promises of what the Driving School will give you when you pass.

At the end of the day, if you don't qualify - you won't need the school.

How to become a Driving Instructor

Several things need to be considered when deciding whether to become a driving instructor. Can you communicate effectively?, Can you remain calm and in control in a potentially dangerous situation?, Have you got dedicated time to study and practice?. These are just a few of the questions you need to ask yourself. Once you're satisfied it's the right career for you, consider the qualifying process.

You must register with the DSA (Driving Standards Agency) and be able to satisfy the conditions listed at the bottom of this page. Then there are 3 exams to be passed, in turn, which fully test your ability to qualify as an instructor. The exams are:

ADI Part 1 - The ADI Theory Test - as many attempts as needed

ADI Part 2 - The Driving Ability Test - 3 attempts

(Once the Part 2 is passed and you have completed 40 hours Part 3 training, you can sit the Part 3 test or opt for a Trainee Licence)

ADI Part 3 - The Instructional Ability Test - 3 attempts

In reality, the whole ADI Training Course will take anywhere from 3 months upwards, but can usually be done around your current job or commitments.

ADI Training UK...

...specialise in two areas - Teaching Learner Drivers and Training Potential Driving Instructors (PDI's) to become Approved Driving Instructors (ADI's). We don't offer Franchises, supply vehicles or provide pupils and we are not an Instructor Training College churning out an endless supply of trainees. We don't recruit on behalf of national or local driving schools. We simply teach pupils how to drive and provide the highest quality, but cost effective Driving Instructor Training courses. Once you have completed your Driving Instructor Training, you can approach any Driving School armed with your Trainee Licence or your Green ADI badge and decide what you want from them.

By going the opposite way and signing up with a School first, you're in no position to negotiate, as you need them to train you.
